The Heber Valley Chamber of Commerce is proud to recognize Wasatch Mountain State Park and Golf Course as the Business of the Month of May. This year the state park system will celebrate 60 years of serving Utah. Wasatch Mountain became a state park in 1961. Since then the park has grown to over 22,000 acres making it the third largest park in Utah.
The park basically goes from Highway 40, all the way to American Fork Canyon. Essentially, the entire western side of the Heber Valley is preserved by the state park.
Park Manager, Tracy See has been serving at the park for 10 years and enjoys helping residents and guests recreate in the valley’s beautiful landscape.
“I love the people. That’s why I got into this. I love the people and the fact that they come out to recreate. When you see them be able to relax and enjoy the day it makes everything that much more special.”
To celebrate the 60th anniversary, throughout the summer the park is holding a tagged fish contest in the pond at the visitor center for fun prizes. Each week the pond will be restocked with new tagged fish. Also See is planning different ATV rides, volunteer opportunities and a host of other events to celebrate.
With 139 camp sites, 32 miles of ATV trails, over 20 miles of hiking and biking trails, fishing, cross country skiing, snowshoeing, and snowmobiling, Wasatch Mountain is a year-round destination for some 300,000 visitors.
Also celebrating a significant anniversary is the 36-hole golf course. Now in its 50th year of operation the golf course has become one of the most popular mountain golf destination in all of Utah.
Chris Stover, Head PGA Pro at Wasatch Mountain, said each year there are 100,000 rounds of golf played throughout the season.
“To have a great golf course it has to be fun to play, have great food, and be in good condition. What makes Wasatch unique is the beautiful scenery and right balance of playability and challenge,” said Stover.
To get that many people to come to Wasatch Mountain is no small feat and is something stover and his staff are proud to be able to do.
This summer the golf course looks to host a few "customer appreciation" type of events with music, food to make it a fun atmosphere to be around. Follow them on Facebook for additional details.
