Business Opportunities
The American Community Survey report released December 2008 names Wasatch County as one of the fastest growing midsize counties in the country with a population growth of 35 percent since 2000. According to Utah Department of Workforce Services data, jobs in the area have grown nearly 35% and payroll growth is over 60% since 2003. Economic growth has slowed with the national economy but many new and existing projects continue to move forward which has kept unemployment under 4%. Despite the relatively low unemployment there are nearly 2,000 employees available from the pool of local residents who commute to nearby Salt Lake, Provo, and Park City for work but would prefer a job closer to home.
Many firms have established operations in Heber Valley including Zermatt Resort, Metal Matrix, and 212 Resources. Other businesses are also capitalizing on the valley's popularity. Several new restaurants in Heber City and Midway offer a variety of cuisine, a fly fishing shop provides good tips and tackle for the area's blue ribbon fishing, and specialty shops offer everything from scrap booking supplies to antiques. Even well-established businesses in the valley are finding the opportunity to expand, including the Homestead Resort in Midway, RJ Enterprises, and the locally owned and operated Dairy Keen. In addition, a new industrial park near the airport offers space for businesses to grow or expand in this dynamic region.
If you'd like to establish or relocate a business to Wasatch County, you'll find the area friendly to both small and large businesses and aware of the needs of both.
