Winters can be kind of gloomy. But there is nothing better then those “blue bird” days of winter when the clouds part and the skies are brilliant blue. Those are the days winter begs US to come outside to play. Some times we can't get way for days on end, but we can all use a little one or two day staycation. We’re calling this staycation itinerary our “Blue Bird Adventure” because it’s designed to help you get the most out of the Heber Valley on one of those sunny days.

First things first: Check-in to your hotel

We have ton of great lodging. From name brands to 4-star resorts. We have what you need to make it your perfect Heber Valley escape. Explore all we have to offer in our lodging section.

Decisions, Decisions

At this point in the day it might be nice to get the heart rate pumping and enjoying the winter blue skies. First, you could try Ice Skating at the Midway Ice Rink. In the heart of Midway town square sits Utah’s largest outdoor ice rink. What could feel more quintessentially winter then skating outdoors? Or you might decide an snowshoe hike through Wasatch Mountain State Park is more in order. Either way you’ll definitely get that “classic” winter feeling.

Refreshing refreshment

Dinner time! Try Spin Café in Heber City. Owners Jolene and Vincent Esposito serve up some delicious American fare with a spin. From classic burgers, house smoked BBQ, and homemade gelato, this will be one of those dining experiences you’ll be journaling about. Just remember don’t skip the gelato, it is a must!

As cold as Ice... Ice Castles

If winter is not your thing, the Ice Castles are one of those things that will change your mind. Millions of pounds of ice and thousands of LED lights create the best photo backdrop you see all winter. Dress warm with boots, gloves, snow pants, and warm coat. Pro Tip: Go at dusk as the lights come on and the crowds are still light. Whatever you do, DO NOT forget a camera! This is a must with the Ice Castle.

Retire for the evening for some Zzzz….

Get some rest for day two.

The most important Meal of the day

A nice hot breakfast on a beautiful sunny day just sets the day off right. If you’re hotel doesn’t offer breakfast, we suggest Café Galleria in Midway. At the heart of the restaurant is large wood burning oven that produces some of the most delicious bagels and pizzas around. With roots in Italian baking, Café Galleria has some awesome traditional Frittatas that will refuel you for the day!  After breakfast check out some local shops in Midway.

Totally Tubular

After checking out the shops around Midway throw on the snow gear and head over to the Soldier Hollow Tubing hill. Boasting the longest tubing lanes in all of Utah it’s definitely not short on fun. With a new “magic carpet” conveyor system you be able to get in more runs and while spending less time in line. Sessions are booked in 2-hour blocks. This is a great event for families of all ages 3 and up!
