The winter adventures continue in the Heber Valley... this time at the Midway Ice Rink, the largest outdoor ice rink in Utah. The rink is the perfect place for friends and family to gather on a brisk winter’s day and enjoy the great outdoors. The rink provides rental skates, either figure or hockey style skates and some helpful tips for beginners, including skate supporter that serve as walkers on ice for anyone looking for a little extra help.
Our family enjoyed the ice rink so much last year that we jumped at the season passes, giving us admission and rentals for the whole winter. My six year old daughter skates along the edge at her own pace, singing songs and watches the older kids play skating games or hold hands with their special someone, tweens and young love. The rink provides a nice warming hut to exchange your street shoes and boots for ice skates. Tables and benches are available for spectators and the heater on the gazebo is the perfect resting place for tired feet and a quick sip of hot cocoa. Concessions are available for purchase or you can bring your own snacks. The outdoor music is tasteful and perfect for the holiday season. The rink is open seven days a week, the specific hours and admission prices are listed here www.midwaycityut.org/icerink
Our first few trips to the rink have been delightful, not too busy during the weekend and a nice crowd on the weekend evenings. My daughter and I circled the oval a few dozen times making circles and spinning to her delight. It is only when I am completely exhausted that she decided to step it up and ice skate even faster giggling and grinning the rest of the evening. It might be time for ice skating lessons; she might just be the next Michelle Kwan. If you are looking for a winter activity for all ages, make sure the Midway Ice Rink is on your list to visit this season. For more information on ice skating lesson visit www.midwaylearntoskate.com
