John and Sandra Platt and business partner Paul Butler celebrated the grand opening of their new restaurant the Midway Mercantile on Friday, February 9 with the Heber Valley Chamber of Commerce.Located on at 99 E Main Street in Midway, the restaurant will feature new American fair ranging from casual to fine dining.
The Platts recently relocated to Midway from Seattle and John will serve as owner and executive chef. Over the past few months they have been renovating the historic Midway Mercantile that has been at the same location since 1874. The orginal mercantile served as a general store for Midway residents. Most recently, before the Platts bought it, the mercantile was an anitque store.
Part of the appeal to John, Sandra and Paul was the history of the building. During renonvation they worked meticulously to keep as much of the orignal building as possible. Guests are greated with a stuning view of the Timpanogos Mountains that shadow the valley. Inside, the stone oven commands the room. With three distinct areas in the restaurant, a bar, sports pub, and an elengant dining room make it the perfect place for something causal after a day of skiing, or for a formal night out.
