Friends of the Heber Valley Railroad

The Heber Valley Historic Railroad invites you to join our community of supporters in fulfilling our mission of preserving the unique historic railroad experience we bring to the State of Utah.

Your gift and support will have a positive, lasting impact on our ability to provide a rich railroad experience for future generations. Gifts to the Heber Valley Railroad will make the difference between a train ride and a great train experience.

Acquisition of a Premium Coach -

Unfortunately, the Heber Valley Railroad currently does not have a coach providing a "first class" experience. Many successful heritage railroads like ourselves, own such a first class car because it is financially very important, and is an additional draw, attracting patronage and those influential in heritage railroad operations. Corporate rentals for meetings and events, film, video, and photo shoots, weddings and other memorable experiences will increase revenue, boost popularity and sustain long-term viability of the Heber Valley Railroad.

We have an opportunity to acquire such a car, and are asking for your help in raising the necessary funds. The "Otto Kuhler" Business Car was built by the Pullman Car Works in 1927. The car was primarily used as a business car for Denver & Rio Grande Western executives (our rail line was a DRGW line from 1899 until the 1960's). The interior contains beautiful mahogany wood, an elegant dining room with leaded glass, and perfectly fits the bill as a "first-class" solution for the Heber Valley Railroad.

The "Otto Kuhler" is currently owned by the New York, Susquehanna & Western Railway. They are interested in this classic coach finding a home where it will be preserved and shared, and are willing to work with us to make a deal happen.

Your donation can help make it happen - As a friend and supporter of the Heber Valley Historic Railroad, we are asking for your help. Several have already come forward and contributed towards this acquisition. We hope that you can join with them raising the necessary capital. We are attempting to raise $200,000 for this coach.

Leadership and Naming Gifts -

The recognition of philanthropy is available throughout the railroad, from named coaches and locomotives to donated equipment and supplies. Because of our supporters, riders will enjoy freshly painted coaches, resorted interiors, renovated restrooms and the magic of steam locomotives. And now we hope we will soon have be able to provide a premium car to our rolling stock.

In addition to this coach, we offer a variety of other philanthropic opportunities for leadership gifts. A number of passenger coaches and locomotives are available for naming. Donors can have their name, their company name, or the name of a loved one painted on the sides of the coach or locomotive. Payments can be structured over multiple years.
