Heber Valley Recreation: Abundant Year-round Adventure

The Wasatch Mountains are home to a variety of activities for both winter and summer fun. During the summer months you'll find trails for hiking and biking, lakes and rivers for fishing and boating, and forests for camping and exploring. Winter activities include world-class ski resorts in Park City, snowmobiling, snowshoeing, ice skating and ice fishing.

Snowbird Ski & Summer Resort

The 2,500 acres of ski-terrain are accessed by 11 ski lifts and an aerial tram - as well as a brand new tunnel, which swiftly connects snowboarders and skiers to Mineral Basin's back bowls. Not that Snowbird is just for skiing. You can snowshoe, snowmobile and take guided mountain tours here.

Soapstone Basin

This 16-mile intermediate loop is a favorite with area mountain bikers. The high elevation makes for cool temperatures throughout the summer and the scenery is spectacular! Meadows of wildflowers intermixed with spruce forest typify the landscape and distant views of the High Uinta Mountains dot the horizon.

Soldier Hollow

Soldier Hollow was one of the busiest venues during the Olympic Winter Games as the scene for 18 events, including six for biathlon, ten for cross-country, and two for the skiing portions of Nordic combined. Competition was held over 16 days and required 11 different race formats and course configurations.

Fifty years ago, the first skiers took to Solitude’s slopes. It was comparatively small and unassuming then. Today, if the resort remains pleasantly uncrowded, it spreads out over 1,200 acres of terrain. Solitude is truly removed, located 12 miles up Big Cottonwood Canyon and possessing a quality of untouched beauty.

Strawberry Reservoir

Strawberry Reservoir, at over 17,000 surface-acres, can take a full day to explore by boat. Two reservoirs, Strawberry and Soldier Creek, were combined in 1985 by way of a long, narrow canyon to create today's Strawberry Reservoir. This canyon, now called "The Narrows," can be one of the most scenic areas on the reservoir and is only accessible by boat.

This lengthy 14-mile loop begins just south of the Strawberry Visitor Center on Clyde Creek Road, approximately 23 miles southeast of Heber City off US Hwy 40. Park at the corrals and climb Clyde Creek road to Strawberry Ridge.
