In the shadow of the Wasatch Mountains lies a historic venue site for the 2002 Olympic Winter Games just South of Heber City. Soldier Hollow served as the busiest venue during the Olympic Winter Games and hosted 23 exciting events of biathlon, Nordic combined, and cross country skiing. Some of the races were described as breathtaking when two racers would be sprinting to the finish line neck and neck. One of these finishes had the largest crowd ever at Soldier Hollow at its feet cheering as two racers, Alsgaard and Zorzi, sprinted for the gold. Alsgaard raised his hands in relief as he crossed the finish line in first place with Zorzi at his heals in disbelief. Team USA finished moments later in fifth-place making a statement for the first time ever that Americans can compete in this sport.
Soldier Hollow is used today with more than 20 miles of trails that wind through the trees and hills. The trail systems provides for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing for athletes of every ability. Soldier Hollow also provides a full-service rustic, pine day lodge that offers ski rentals, souvenir items, accessories, and food and beverages. This structure has fantastic architect features with weathered trestle beams and large windows providing spectacular views of the Wasatch Mountains, Heber Valley and the trail system. Soldier Hollow also has an 36-hole golf course that offers challenging play for golfers of all abilities and amazing views of the Heber Valley and majestic Mount Timpanogos. Soldier Hollow also has one of the longest courses in the state and the originality of being the only 36-hole facility golf course built on an Olympic venue.
