HEBER - Having children can be life changing. For Candie Bonner, founder and owner of Whimzy Lane in Heber, having a child changed her life and inspired her to take a path that has led her from waiting tables to celebrating her one-year anniversary as a business owner. And she couldn’t be prouder of both her children and her store.

Bonner’s journey to becoming a business owner started with one simple problem – a need for cute baby clothing.  “I couldn’t find cute things for my baby that were affordable,” said Bonner, “I didn’t want to break the bank to make my kids look cute.”

So Bonner began making her own hair bows. Soon she was filling orders from family and friends and then began selling them online. As the popularity of her handmade items increased she saw an opportunity to open up her own store.

In May of last year Bonner opened Whimzy Lane as a boutique specializing in fashionable apparel for women and children. They also have a wide variety home decor.

Her store, located just off of Main Street in the Valley Square near Zions Bank and Heber Appliance, has something for everyone, from handcrafted items from Heber Valley locals to high-end name brand clothing such as Ruffle Butts, Bonnie Jean, Isobella and Chloe and Lilac Maternity.

Keeping to their simple motto “adorable and affordable,” has helped Whimzy Lane achieve successful. Offering quality clothing and home décor products at affordable prices has helped to entice customers to her store.

“We offer a variety of price points, so we can have something for everyone. There is nothing in the store over $50,” said Bonner.

Just like raising children, owning a store is both stressful and rewarding for Bonner. Over this past year she has felt a wide range of emotions from excitement, to fear, to inspiration, and even the reality of the expensive nature of operating a store.  Bonner says the support from the community has made the store successful and has made all the emotions worth it.

“It’s fun to contribute, to be a business leader to provide jobs, and a place for people to shop without having to leave Heber,” she said. “To hear people say they have found a store with things they are looking for has been very rewarding.”

In celebration of their one-year anniversary Whimzy Lane will be hosting an open house at their store, 55 E Center Suite 190, on May 16 and 17. During the open house event Bonner said they will be offering special sales and will be serving light refreshments.
