I have been practicing law since 1981---36 years (and counting)
Unlike most other attorneys, I decided to become an estate planning attorney when I was still in college (at BYU). All of my law school education focused on this field. I got my first job with the premier estate planning attorney in SLC and learned from the best. I've focused my practice in this area for my entire career. I soon found that many of my clients were professionals and business owners with successful practices/businesses who were more concerned with protecting what they had spent their careers accumulating than making their kids rich when they passed on. I began assisting them with the latest and best asset protection planning available. I've been doing this for the past 20 years or so in conjunction with doing living trusts and tax planning.
After practicing in SLC for a few years, we moved to Las Vegas, NV, where I've practiced for the last 30+ years. NV has the best asset protection laws in the nation, bar none. A large portion of my practice is assisting clients from all over the country in using Nevada laws (such as Nevada Asset Protection Trusts) to help protect their assets. Our home in Las Vegas got burglarized twice in a six-month period, once on a Wednesday evening while we were home. My wife stumbled across two men rifling through her jewelry. That was the last straw. We decided we were not safe and were otherwise tired of the large city (relatively speaking) lifestyle, traffic, schools, etc. We put our house on the market, got an offer the next day and were out the following month. I had been fantasizing about leaving the desert and moving to the mountains in Utah for years. This valley had everything we were looking for---it's quiet, safe peaceful, beautiful beyond words, with wonderful people to rub shoulders with. I've lived in both Utah and Salt Lake valleys, and they simply don't do it for me. Heber valley was where we wanted to spend the rest of our days. So we plucked up our 16 year old daughter (who was getting bullied in her Las Vegas High School) and deposited her into Wasatch High School where she thrived for her last two years of HS. Initially she hated us for ruining her life, then the magic of the place happened and she sunk down roots. So much so that she ran for Miss Wasatch County last year and won. This past year has been a wonderful learning, growing experience for her as she's been involved in community activities and events continually. She loves this place as much as her mom and me and is so very grateful we saved her from Las Vegas. Heber Valley is my favorite place on this planet. I have been in nearly every state in the US and have visited 50 countries on six continents. I will never leave this valley (voluntarily). My only regret is that we didn't make the move sooner! My objective professionally is to bring my years of experience to the fine people in Wasatch County to assist them with their estate planning and asset protection needs.
We've been here 2 1/2 years now. What I like most are: the amazing beauty of the place and the amazing spirit that permeates our valley. This is the finest place and finest people on this planet.
Getting to know and associate with other like-minded people.
It's THE group to be involved with in the valley.
