Take a moment to get to know Wasatch Travel, our November Chamber member spotlight: I’m Krista Mayne and myself and my husband Gerry are the owners of Wasatch Travel. I fell in love with travel when I took a trip to Europe as a high school student. During college, I worked for an airline and was able to travel most weekends around the United States.

After college, I became a travel agent and have loved every minute of it. As the owner of Wasatch Travel, I reside in Midway, UT, a mountain community in the Heber Valley. I can book trips all around the world.

I specialize in family travel including, but not limited to: Hawaii, Disney, cruises and Europe. I have an obsession with Hawaii as that is my favorite destination. Actually, I’m most content at any beach. I'm excited to create smooth travel plans for you.

Wasatch Travel has amazing relationships with many suppliers and will do our best to find you the best value for your vacation. If by chance you find something lower, we will be happy to submit a price match. The Internet is for looking, but travel agents are for booking! You deserve to have access to a travel professional in case of any issues to be your advocate!

 

1. How long has your business been operating?

4 years

2. What do you do and how do you specialize in that area? What makes your business unique?

We give our customers personal guidance and tips to make your vacations extra special. We can book all types of travel including guided tours, cruises and custom designed trips.

3. What is the story on how and why you started your business?

Krista - As the owner I worked for the airlines while in college and then became a travel agent. When my kids came along, I stopped working, but never stopped booking trips for my friends and family. In 2009, I started blogging as a hobby and still have some popular blogs for clothing and all things Hawaiian. In 2013, I realized that I missed booking travel, so I jumped back in full time as I needed a way to support our family while my husband went to nursing school. I started Wasatch Travel as a way to help locals take wonderful vacations. Our growth has been phenomenal and I now have 2 independent contractors booking travel for Wasatch Travel. They also live in the Heber Valley.

4. Are you new to the Heber Valley?

I grew up in Utah, but moved to Colorado after we married. In 2012 we moved back to Utah to the Heber Valley. We have 5 children and we love it here.

5. What are the benefits of being a part of the Heber Valley Chamber of Commerce?

The Chamber meetings have been great for networking and I always learn new ideas from the guest speakers at the monthly meetings

6. Why did you decide to become a member of the chamber?

Since I work from a home office, I needed a way to get the word out about our business. The chamber has been a great venue for collaborating with other business owners.

7. What do you hope to contribute to the Chamber?

I have some specialized skills with blogging and social media - so I'm always open to giving advice to those needing some extra help.

8. Who are your clients/customers?

Our clients are people who want to go on vacation. We mainly book trips for people in Utah, but have many clients outside of Utah too.

9. Share a few sentences about your family and your hobbies outside of work?

Outside of work - I actually do love to travel for a hobby and am most content going to the beach. You could say that decorating my home in Hawaiian style is another hobby. I'm also a podcast junkie - usually have one or two that I listen to while I'm working.

10. What are some of your greatest accomplishments in your professional and personal life?

My kids are my greatest accomplishments and everything I do is for them - although they may not always realize that. Professionally - I have achieved many different types of travel specializations such as Hawaii destination specialist, etc.

11. What has been your favorite Heber Valley activity?

Our family loves to go boating and take scenic drives.

12. What drives you to do what you do for a living?

I take great satisfaction in creating the perfect vacations and especially love helping extended families connect again through travel. My clients become family and I'm very committed to helping them before and during travel.
