Chick's Cafe - December 2021 Business of the Month

Dec 15, 2021

Open seven days a week from 7am to 9pm, the local Chick’s Café is serving up fresh food that warms the belly with friendly service that warms the soul. Known for many staple menu items, most locals will tell you they come for the chicken fried steak, sweet rolls, and scones.

The building was originally built in the late 1800s and was purchased by Gaylen and Elva Wright in 1954. Since then, the Wright family has maintained ownership and has continued running the dining establishment through now four generations of Wright family. Their goal is to keep Chick’s running the same way it was when they were growing up. As the family has grown over the years, the café has seen a lot of family members train and work inside its walls – teaching strong work ethic and customer service to all who work there.

We caught up with Lynette, one of the owners, in between her restocking the pie fridge, greeting and serving multiple customers, wiping down counters, and checking in on the cook staff. She says that she loves her dedicated team. “It’s not possible without a dedicated and hard-working staff. I am so grateful for the people that I work with.” Lynette was so sincere about her gratitude for her team, and equally grateful for the dedicated and repeat customers that keep coming back to Chick’s.

When we asked her about her favorite menu items, she raved about the chicken fried steak, large prawn, and ham and eggs from the breakfast menu. She talked about the fresh made and from-scratch pies and house made soups – all made fresh each day. And, of course, the fresh scones. How does she like them? Simple – with butter and honey. Oh, and they use a local honey producer too.

Other than working with her amazing team, the favorite part of her job is greeting hungry customers and engaging with diners. The next time you stop into dine at Chick’s Café, be sure to say hello to Lynette. And if you haven’t been there before, or even if it’s just been a while, get over there and try some of these menu favorites. Most items come with a scone!
