Deer Creek Perimeter Trail

Deer Creek Trail

DIRECTIONS: Two trail heads sit on either end of this trail, on either end of the Deer Creek Reservoir:

Deer Creek Dam Trailhead--located on US 189, just west of the Deer Creek Dam

Soldier Hollow Trailhead--located east of Soldier Hollow (on Soldier Hollow Lane, a sign pointing to the Deer Creek Dam Trailhead is deceiving and appears to guide you to park at the train stop...Don't! Unless you want to use this restroom. Rather, continue a few hundred yards and turn left. The trailhead is behind Rocky Mountain Outfitters)

DIFFICULTY LEVEL: Easy to moderate

LENGTH: 8 miles one way

AVERAGE HIKE TIME: It would be quite a feat to hike the entire in-and-out with kids...we recommend taking the bikes on this trail for an hour or two

TRAIL USERS: Hikers, horses, and bikers (no dogs allowed)

BEST TIME OF YEAR TO HIKE: Best views, conditions, and temperatures in the late spring, summer, and fall

COST: you will have to pay $7 for a pass or use your Utah State Parks pass in order to park in the parking lot

TRAIL CONDITIONS: The first mile or so is easiest for younger children, after that there is some elevation gain that could be challenging (about 1/2 mile of up). The trail is fairly smooth from much use. Could pull a bike trailer on this path if conditions allowed.

SUN EXPOSURE: Full sun

WATER: No, bring your own

RESTROOM: No, nearest restroom at the Heber Creeper Soldier Hollow stop (very close to the trail head)

WATCH FOR: This area is great for bird watching! Shorebirds, songbirds, and raptors are around in abundance.
