Dutch Hollow Trail

Dutch Hollow

DIRECTIONS: From Hwy 40 in Heber, turn west on River Road. Go 2.3 miles and turn right (north) on Dutch Canyon Rd. Continue on this road, turning right at each fork, for .7 miles until you arrive at a large parking lot. There is an upper lot with quicker access to the trails on the west side of the park.

DIFFICULTY LEVEL: 13 trails are listed at the trail head, in three categories: easier, moderate, and challenger (don't be afraid of taking your kids mountain biking down "The Barrel", it is our favorite one!)

LENGTH: Varies depending on your route

AVERAGE HIKE TIME: We recommend starting with the Heber Valley Overlook trail. With kids, it can be accomplished in 1-2 hours.

TRAIL USERS: Hikers, bikers, horses, and dogs

BEST TIME OF YEAR TO HIKE: It is open year round with great snowshoeing in the winter if conditions are right. The rest of the year is wonderful too...as long as there is no mud

COST: You will have to pay $7 for a pass or use your Utah State Parks pass in order to park in the parking lot

TRAIL CONDITIONS: Most trails are smooth single track, well used by bikes. You will find rocky/rooty (is that a word?) sections

SUN EXPOSURE: Very little shade, beware on hot days that you'll be exposed

WATER: No, pack your own

RESTROOMS: Yes, forest service pit style

WATCH FOR: The main trail head has an education sign titled "Residents of Dutch Hollow". You'd be wise to brush up on your "if you encounter a black bear" and "if you encounter a cougar" skills. Additionally, this park is home to mule deer, elk, wild turkeys, and various birds of prey. For this reason, the park asks that you not let your dogs roam free while you hike, so as to not stress the wildlife (and also in the best interest of your dog!).
