Conveniently located between Provo and Salt Lake City, Heber Valley offers a small-town feel in a world-class mountain setting that’s easy to reach, but far enough away to feel like an escape. Heber Valley has a sweeping list of activities to entertain folk of all ages. Dive in a geothermal hot spring, catch a ride on a historic railroad, take the driver's seat of an ATV, snag a fish, explore Jordanelle Reservoir on a paddle board, take flight in a warbird airplane, plan a nature hike and most importantly - reconnect with family.
Heber Valley has an array of activities to please the tantrum throwing toddlers to the adrenaline junky who is a child at heart along with several activities that will entertain the entire group. Since you want to keep the family together as much as possible we’ll focus on a few activities that do just that.
Step back in time on a scenic ride on the historic Heber Valley Railroad. Rides vary from 1.5 hours long to 3 hours long and include real western entertainment such as gun fights and sing-alongs. Some rides offer a lunch option.
Enjoy a tour of the Heber Valley Creamery with an opportunity to sample over 30 different flavors of cheddar cheese – some not even released to the public yet. Meet the animals and get a behind the scenes tour of the cheese makers in action.
Get in touch with nature- go take a hike on one of several family friendly trails in the Valley. One of our favorites in the Cascade Springs Nature Trail at only .5 mile out and back on a paved walkway with nature signs and a beautiful spring throughout the walk. Another favorite is the Heber Valley Overlook trail that is part of the Dutch Hollow Trail system only 1 mile one way and has breathtaking views of both Heber and Midway.
Send the adventurers to explore the Wasatch Mountains by ATV while grandpa teaches the littles how to cast at the Wasatch Mountain State Park fishing pond – where the fish are a-plenty and the smiles are priceless. Poles and bait are available to rent at Wasatch Mountain State Park Visitor Center.
Heber Valley is a great destination year-round because of our mild temperatures. Most family reunions take place late spring to summer making Heber Valley an ideal destination with an average temperature of 79 degrees. Be sure to pack a jacket – even in summer. When the sun goes down the crisp mountain air moves in – perfect for stories around the campfire.
A couple other odds and ends to pack include hiking shoes, boots and jeans for horseback riding, swimming suits, (because come on its summer!) and baby carrier so mom and baby get in on the adventure too.
Don’t forget your cameras – you’ll want these family memories to last a lifetime. We also have local photographers that book family sessions while you’re all together on this rare occasion such as Stephanie Neal Photography.
Families that play together stay together so make your next family gathering unforgettable by planning something you haven’t done before.
Dive in to a 10,000 year old hot spring, also known as the Homestead Crater.
Take a ride over the Wasatch Mountains in a real warbird airplane with Warbird Adventures.
Take the entire family on a horse drawn carriage ride through the majestic mountains of Heber Valley and enjoy a delicious Dutch oven dinner by the fire afterward.
Or zip through the air at 55 miles-per-hour at Deer Creek Reservoir on the worlds longest over-water zip line. Definitely a post worthy experience.
