The Heber Valley is often overlooked by cyclists visiting (or living) in Utah due to its close proximity to the world renowned town of Park City. However, Heber City boasts unique views of Mt. Timpanogos to its south and is flanked by the Uintas -- the highest east-west running mountains in North America -- to its north. This picturesque mountain town is a gateway to some great road biking and while there are some family-friendly routes, most rides would be enjoyed more by intermediate and advanced riders.

I grew up in Utah but my family didn't ski, and when I graduated from sledding I went straight to a snowboard. I tell the cross-country ski instructor that I've been here to Soldier Hollow before, though. I came to help my uncle Steve install some gigantic Olympic rings for the 2002 Winter Olympic Games when I was 16.

Revving our engines, we climb through dense forest, leaning into our turns as we aim our snowmobiles toward the summit, fresh snow lightly falling around us. Our guide and local snowmobiling expert, Brent Hill, is the owner of Daniels Summit Lodge, and he grooms these trails every day all winter long. He has the trail map memorized and doesn’t hesitate as he hangs quick turns through the seemingly endless wilderness.
