August 2021 Business of the Month: Gravity Coalition
Jennie Hoover, local outfitter and business owner of Gravity Coalition, met with the Heber Valley Chamber team to share her expertise and passion for all things outdoor recreation. A Utah native, Jennie met her husband, who is from Midway, and decided to settle in Heber Valley to raise her family and start their business. After 15 years of talking about opening a gear shop and dreaming of how she would run her own business, Jennie made the leap and opened Gravity Coalition four years ago, in 2017. She was able to secure a shop space in a historic Midway home located right on Midway Main Street. She loves being part of this community and is living her dream of owning and operating her own outdoor recreation gear shop.
Jennie and her husband carry gear and parts for all the outdoor sports they love. Her most highly sought-after summer items include mountain bikes and helmets – which isn’t too surprising considering the location of the shop in proximity to some of the best mountain biking trails in northern Utah! In addition to bikes and helmets, the quaint shop also carries high-end running shoes for road and trail, rock climbing gear, skateboards, hydration packs, and all sorts of accessories to properly and completely outfit anyone for their next adventure. The shop fully transforms for all outdoor activities during the winter season, including skiing, snowboarding, and snowshoeing. The recreation store includes a repair shop in the back where they specialize in bike repair. The team at Gravity Coalitions prides itself on quick turnarounds for all repair needs and loves helping locals and visitors get out there and enjoy Mother Nature.
When we asked Jennie about her favorite sport of choice – snowboarding! It was a tough call with so many wonderful outdoor activities to choose among, but Jennie simply stated, “I’m a winter girl at heart!” She is in the right place for that.
So, what’s next for Jennie and her team at Gravity Coalition? A major building expansion at the Midway location. The construction and renovation is currently underway and Jennie hopes to see it complete in time for this winter season. The new square footage will allow for a larger showroom and more space for customers to explore the gear and accessories, as well as a bigger window display to showcase new equipment for each season. This small-town and locally-owned business success story is just one of many examples – showing how our community continues to grow through both local and tourism support.
