The Heber Valley Chamber is proud to recognize Ritual Chocolate as the July 2026 Business of the Month. This award celebrates businesses that demonstrate excellence in entrepreneurship, community involvement, innovation, and a commitment to making Heber Valley an exceptional place to live, work, and visit.
Since relocating to Heber Valley in 2020, Ritual Chocolate has become much more than an award-winning craft chocolate maker. The company has created a destination where locals and visitors can experience the art, science, and history of chocolate through thoughtfully crafted products, immersive tastings, factory tours, and genuine community connections.
From Bean to Bar: A Passion for Chocolate
For co-founder and President Anna Seear, chocolate has always been about more than just creating a delicious product.
Ritual Chocolate began in 2010 in Boulder, Colorado, where Anna discovered a passion for small-batch chocolate manufacturing and the fascinating stories behind cacao grown around the world. As she learned about the unique growing regions, farmers, and traditions connected to cacao, she became just as captivated by the journey of the bean as the finished chocolate product itself.
That passion continues to shape Ritual Chocolate today. Every bar tells the story of its origin, showcasing the distinct flavor profiles that come from cacao sourced from regions such as Belize, Madagascar, Peru, and other renowned growing areas. Rather than simply enjoying chocolate, customers are invited to experience it and discover how the flavors evolve through slow tasting to learn what makes each origin unique.
Unique Product, Unique Name
The name Ritual Chocolate reflects the rich history of cacao, which has played an important role in religious ceremonies, cultural traditions, and celebrations around the world and for centuries.
Anna wanted to honor that heritage by creating products that encourage people to slow down, engage their senses, and transform enjoying chocolate into a memorable ritual. That philosophy can be experienced throughout the company's product line, onsite cafe, family-friendly tasting experiences, and educational tours.
Finding a Home in Heber Valley
After relocating to Utah in 2015, Ritual Chocolate initially established operations in Park City. Seeking more space, the company opened its expanded factory and café on the south end of Heber Valley in 2020. The larger location gave Ritual Chocolate room to grow while creating an inviting destination for guests.
For Anna, choosing a rural community was intentional. She wanted to build a business where she could be part of the local community while raising her family. Although operating in a smaller town brings unique challenges, she believes the quality of life, relationships, and community support make Heber Valley the perfect place for Ritual Chocolate to call home.
Today, the facility features:
- A welcoming chocolate and coffee café
- A spacious bean-to-bar chocolate factory
- An intimate tasting room
- Public and private factory tours
- Guided chocolate tasting experiences
- A variety of community events at the cafe throughout the year
Building Community Through Collaboration
One of Ritual Chocolate's greatest strengths is its commitment to supporting fellow local businesses. Several products in the company's popular Mountain Bar collection feature locally sourced ingredients and partnerships, including regional lavender, honey, spirits, and other uniquely Utah flavors. These collaborations help tell the story of the Wasatch Back while strengthening relationships with neighboring businesses and producers.
A special partnership with Pink Elephant Coffee Roasters developed right next door. And today, Pink Elephant operates Mocha Café inside Ritual Chocolate, The natural synergy between these two businesses further enhances the visitor experience and supports the continued success of both business operations.
Creating Jobs and Economic Growth
Like many entrepreneurs, Anna has worn nearly every hat imaginable throughout Ritual Chocolate's journey. Over the years she has managed sales, marketing, product development, storytelling, packaging, shipping, finance, and countless other responsibilities required to build a successful small business.
As Ritual Chocolate has continued to grow, so has its team. The company has created quality local jobs while maintaining its commitment to craftsmanship, education, and exceptional customer experiences.
Despite rising costs for ingredients, production, and labor, Ritual Chocolate continues looking for new ways to innovate. The team is already developing new products, including a highly anticipated milk chocolate bar expected to join its lineup in 2027.
Sharing the Chocolate Journey
Education and quality remain at the heart of everything Ritual Chocolate does. Anna enjoys teaching visitors how to taste craft chocolate, encouraging them taste slowly and experience how aromas, textures, and flavor notes gradually develop with each bite.
That philosophy comes to life during the company's weekly public factory tours and tasting experiences, which offer guests a behind-the-scenes look at the bean-to-bar manufacturing process. The family-friendly tours have become a favorite activity for both residents and visitors, while private tastings provide customized experiences for groups seeking something more unique.
Staying Connected
Anna credits much of Ritual Chocolate's success to the relationships built within the Heber Valley community. She has found tremendous value through her involvement with the Heber Valley Chamber, where networking opportunities, business connections, mentorship, and community support have helped the company continue to grow.
When asked what advice she would give someone considering starting a business, her answer is simple: “Do it!”
She encourages aspiring entrepreneurs to seek mentors, build relationships, and lean into the support available within our local business community.
Living the Heber Valley Lifestyle
Anna and her family proudly call nearby Midway home, where they enjoy the small-town atmosphere and outdoor lifestyle that originally drew them to the Wasatch Back.
Whether exploring some of her favorite places, like the WOW Trail, hiking the Dutch Hollow trail system, taking scenic drives through the valley, or walking through Midway's charming downtown shops and restaurants, she and her family appreciate the close-knit community and easy access to the outdoors that make Heber Valley such a special place to live.
Those same qualities continue to inspire Ritual Chocolate's work and contribute to the welcoming atmosphere visitors experience every time they step through the doors.
