Each month, the Heber Valley Chamber recognizes a local business whose work strengthens the economic vitality, character, and future of the valley. The March 2026 Business of the Month award celebrates a firm whose impact is literally built into the landscape of the community: Lythgoe Design Group, led by licensed architect Lane Lythgoe.
This esteemed recognition honors more than professional excellence. It acknowledges deep roots, generational commitment, and a philosophy of design that places community first. For residents of Heber Valley, the work done by this respected firm shapes not just buildings—but daily life, shared spaces, and the valley’s evolving identity.
A Family Legacy Built In This Valley
Lane Lythgoe’s connection to the community runs generations deep. Both sides of his family trace their heritage to the valley, with parents and grandparents born and raised here. His mother’s family roots extend to Center Creek, and his father—after serving in the U.S. Army—returned home to start a construction business that would shape the Lythgoe family future.
From a young age, Lane worked alongside his father, gaining firsthand experience in construction, engineering, and design. That early exposure sparked a lifelong passion for architecture and the built environment.
After serving a mission in Tennessee, Lane obtained his degree from Brigham Young University. He then worked in Salt Lake City on major civic projects, including Abravanel Hall and Capitol Theatre, along with numerous public safety and government buildings.
Building a Business and a Life in Heber Valley
In 1998, Lane founded Lythgoe Design Group, initially operating out of the family home in Center Creek. As the firm grew, Lane and his wife Laurie made a deliberate decision to invest both their business and personal lives in downtown Heber City. They relocated to Main Street, embedding themselves at the heart of the community they serve.
Today, the firm operates as a family-run practice. Laurie, a partner in the business, manages office operations and human resources, while their son Josh, now a graduate of Utah Valley University, has worked with the company for nearly a decade and contributes his own professional expertise.
The team currently includes six members, each bringing specialized skills and experience to the valley. Laurie’s culinary background and passion even finds its way into company culture through team gatherings and celebrations, reinforcing the close-knit and caring environment that distinguishes the firm.

Their reach extends into civic development, recreation, education, and everyday gathering spaces. These areas shape quality of life for generations to come.
Architecture With a Long-Term View
Unlike many professions, architecture carries enduring consequences. Buildings may stand for decades or even centuries, influencing how communities grow, interact, and remember their past. Lane approaches each project with this perspective in mind. He emphasizes “legacy projects” as work that will continue serving residents long after construction crews leave.
One of the firm’s most meaningful contributions is its commitment to hiring locally and collaborating with regional partners whenever possible. This intentional approach keeps economic impacts benefiting the valley.
At Lythgoe Design Group, no two days look alike. The team may move from client consultations to design development, regulatory coordination, community planning discussions, or pro bono work supporting local causes. This diversity of tasks reflects the broad role architecture plays in shaping civic life. It also highlights the adaptability required to serve a growing region with evolving needs.
Preserving Culture While Embracing Growth
Heber Valley continues to attract visitors and new residents drawn by its natural beauty, recreation opportunities, and small-town character. Managing that growth requires careful balance. As multigenerational locals, Lane and Laurie understand the importance of preserving the valley’s heritage while accommodating its future. Their work often reflects traditional aesthetics, human-scale design, and sensitivity to local history.
This commitment extends beyond professional projects. The couple is currently restoring a historic home near Main Street, taking great care to maintain its architectural integrity and cultural significance.
