May 2026 Business of the Month: Community Alliance for Main Street
The Heber Valley Chamber is proud to recognize the Community Alliance for Main Street (CAMS) as the May 2026 Business of the Month. This recognition celebrates an organization that has become an integral part of the success of downtown Heber City. Since 2004, the volunteer-based organization has strengthened the downtown area through community events, historical preservation, local business advocacy, and economic development efforts.
Focused on the Heber City Main Street corridor and surrounding side streets, CAMS operates with a four-part mission:
Historical preservation
Creating community spaces
Building local businesses
Supporting economic vitality
These pillars guide the organizational efforts to protect the character of Heber City while helping it evolve thoughtfully for future generations.
Building Community Through Events CAMS has introduced and grown several beloved community events that now play an important role in downtown Heber City.
The organization launched Heber City’s Old Fashioned Christmas celebration, one of the valley’s first major holiday events centered around Main Street. CAMS also initiated the annual Halloween Fest, which has continued to grow each year and draw local families and visitors downtown.
Most recently, CAMS introduced a Cinco de Mayo celebration in 2026. The inaugural event was well received and reflects the organization’s continued focus on creating welcoming and inclusive community gathering spaces.
Looking ahead, CAMS plans to continue expanding block party-style events and community programming designed to bring residents, businesses, and visitors together year-round.
Supporting the Future of Downtown Heber City CAMS works closely with local municipalities, community partners, and business owners to support the long-term success of downtown Heber City.
Business advocacy remains a key focus for the organization. CAMS supports entrepreneurs, expanding small businesses, and business owners exploring additional downtown locations. The organization focuses on individualized conversations and long-term strategies that help businesses succeed while strengthening the downtown core overall.
That collaborative approach has helped build growing momentum throughout downtown Heber City, creating an environment where ongoing investment and business growth attract even more opportunity.
Preserving History While Creating the Future Historical preservation is a central part of the organization’s mission and an area deeply important to the CAMS Chairman, Tom Stone.
Tom has called Heber home since 1986 and has spent decades investing in the community. A longtime advocate for downtown revitalization, he owns several commercial buildings along Main Street and has helped create opportunities for local entrepreneurs and independent businesses.
Tom is also a strong supporter of public art as a way to celebrate and preserve local history. One example is the large-scale mural on the north side of the Bank Block building, which helps honor the heritage and stories of Heber Valley.
For Tom and CAMS, preserving history means ensuring future growth remains connected to the community’s identity, character, and values.
A Vision Focused on Locals First One of the core philosophies behind CAMS is simple: if locals love downtown, visitors will too. That mindset aligns closely with the vision shared by the Heber Valley Chamber and many community leaders who recognize the importance of a vibrant, locally supported downtown experience.
As CAMS looks to the future, the organization remains focused on listening to residents and business owners, expanding community events, supporting local businesses, and continuing to build a downtown Heber City that residents are proud to call their home.
Since its founding, CAMS has relied heavily on volunteers to support its programs and initiatives. While volunteer involvement remains essential, the organization recently secured funding for a full-time position that will help with operations and expand what CAMS can accomplish moving forward.
This additional support represents an important next step for the organization as community events continue growing and preservation efforts expand year-round. Certain seasons naturally bring increased activity and event planning, while historical preservation efforts, business advocacy, relationship building, and downtown planning remain ongoing priorities throughout the year.
Rooted in Heber Valley Beyond his work with CAMS, Tom’s career in the mortgage industry has allowed him to connect with both longtime residents and newcomers to the valley. His passion for the community, outdoor lifestyle, and local history continues to shape the vision of creating a downtown that residents are proud of and businesses can thrive in for generations to come.
The Heber Valley Chamber congratulates Community Alliance for Main Street on being named the May 2026 Business of the Month, and thanks the organization for its ongoing dedication to preserving, strengthening, and celebrating the heart of Heber City.
