Bonanza Flat Conservation Area Information:
In 2017, development threatened the 1,512-acre Bonanza Flat area - located near Guardsman Pass, a popular area for scenic drives, hiking, biking, bird watching, and wildlife.
With a purchase price of $38 million it seemed nearly impossible to preserve this space. But Park City residents eventually voted to pass a $25 million bond and several entities started working to secure the remainder of the funding needed.
In the end, it took three cities, three counties, three public agencies, 11 non-profit organizations, and thousands of private donations to fund the $13 million gap.
In June 2017, with the funds having been successfully raised with the largest collaborative fundraising effort in local history, Park City Municipal and Utah Open Lands banded together to purchase the land with the intent to permanently conserve it with a Conservation Easement held by Utah Open Lands.
