One of best tests you’ll ever take is a taste testing. On Thursday, January 23, the folks over at the Homestead Resort in Midway invited several of us from the Chamber over to “test” out the updated menu at Simon’s Restaurant.
The evening started off with some appetizers and old fashioned lemonade around the bar. The chefs came out personally to serve us some delicious fried green tomatoes, blue crab on pitta chips, and cheese curds from Heber Valley’s own Artisan Cheese Factory. I’m pretty sure cheese from Heber Valley makes the best cheese curds.
If that was the pretest then things were looking good for the main event. Just like my teachers in high school would explain the rules of the tests, the chefs gave our classroom of test takers the instructions that the food would be coming out quickly and not to fill up too fast! I think I can handle these instructions.
They weren’t lying, the food came out quickly! We were treated to some of the most amazing comfort foods, like Country Fried Steak, Homemade Chicken Noodle Soup, Braised Beef Noodle pasta, and a great Grilled Cheese Sandwich with locally smoked ham.
Then came the extra credit part of the evening, some of the most delicious and decadent desserts this side of the Wasatch. What is comfort food without some great desserts like sweet potato pie, cheery pie, chocolate mousse and finally apple donuts? Just remember when you head out to Simon’s be sure to save room for the extra credit!
I think if I had more tests like this I may have done better in high school.
