Rock Cliff Recreation Area and Nature Center, located on the east shore of Jordanelle Reservoir, is a unique getaway. The focus of this recreation site is to preserve and protect the scenic corridor along the Provo River with as little alteration and negative impact as possible. Toward this end, fishing along this section of the river is limited to artificial flies and lures only and camping is on a walk-in basis. Rock Cliff has maintained a peaceful, natural setting where wildlife is plentiful and solitude is easy to find.
The Nature Center houses exhibits and interactive displays that explain the surrounding wetland and riparian habitats. State park personnel offer environmental programs and provide information about recreation at Jordanelle State Park. A series of elevated boardwalk trails travel from the Nature Center, under a canopy of cottonwoods, into the natural surroundings of the Provo River where interpretive signs explain the river's complex ecology.
Visit Rock Cliff for an afternoon or a weekend of camping in the shade near the peaceful sounds of the stream. Contact the Rock Cliff Nature Center for more information on Rock Cliff Recreation Area and Jordanelle State Park at 435-782-3030. To reach Rock Cliff, travel north of Heber City on US Hwy 40 to the junction with Utah Hwy 32, then follow Hwy 32 toward Francis. Our community is at a crossroads. A dwindling share of Wasatch County citizens can claim pioneer stock. Our rural heritage is rapidly becoming a thing of the past. The Heber Valley's raw beauty, freshness, and charm are likewise threatened.
Change seems inevitable - and it is.
But, in viewing the community's transition, can we have a hand in shaping our joint future? Can we mold it to retain the wonderful character that attracted us - or our ancestors - to this valley?
We believe - that as a unified force - the citizens and civic leaders of this county have the power to influence our future in ways that will have a major impact for us and for generations to come.
Heber Valley Heritage Foundation. Prompted in part by a generous offer from the LeRoy Sweat family to provide seed funding for a history museum, a broad-based group of civic and community leaders - the Heber Valley Heritage Foundation - has developed a three-part strategy aimed at:
Embracing Our Past. Joining the valley's rapid growth with a pride and recollection of its history.
Nurturing Our Cultural Heritage. Supporting arts and cultural programs - particularly as they relate to the County's heritage.
Leaving a Legacy for the Future. Creating an interconnected system of trails and open space throughout the valley and into the surrounding mountains.
Together is Better. Attacking these challenges alone would be like paddling up the Provo. But if we -- private citizens, community organizations, public leaders -- band together, we can become a potent force. One that would bring great pride to our ancestors and a wonderful legacy for our descendents. By swimming together, we will attract the attention of others -- like-minded folk, foundations, state and federal governments -- to join in our endeavor.
