Fall River Fly Rods are pleased to announce that they are hosting the 7th Annual Heber Valley Fly Fishing Festival & Kids Fly Fishing Derby. We hope you will join us for a fantastic day of fly fishing festivities that are entirely free to the public courtesy of Fall River Fly Rods. Anglers of all skill levels are welcomed and encouraged to attend the event so that they may both learn new techniques and fine-tune their skills via the free classes, clinics and demonstrations being offered throughout the weekend by local fly fishing guides & industry experts. Clinics will be held both on and off the water and will be covering both a wide-array of topics and skill levels this year; topics to include basic casting techniques, hands-on casting instruction for intermediate-level situations, “how-to’s” on nymphing technique specific to the Provo River & on the logistics involved with introducing your children to fly fishing, fly tying & leader building demonstrations and much more! The festival is pleased to announce the addition of full-day “ladies-only” fly fishing instruction via a course that has been designed in a way that affords attendees the ability to either participate in the entire day of instruction, or individual segments of it depending upon their needs. Our “ladies-only” instruction is being provided by Rebeca Granillo, founder of the Wasatch Women’s Fly Fishers club and a number of other volunteers from their organization. Also new to our course selection this year are three advanced-level on-the-water demonstrations being given by world champion fly fisher Lance Egan, of the Lehi Cabela’s store; Lance will be covering “Advanced Dry Fly Tips & Techniques”, “Advanced Water Reading” and instruction on “European Nymphing” via separate on-the-water demonstrations being given once each day. Anglers are encouraged to pre-register for these clinics as space will be limited and is expected to fill quickly. Details for Lance’s courses, as well as the rest of free courses being offered by the Heber Valley Fly Fishing Festival may be found on our website here and print copies of the schedule will be available on site at the event. The Heber Valley Fly Fishing Festival will have more than four dozen vendors, artisans and fly club booths, along with a number of industry experts on hand this year so there will be plenty to do, see and try out while there! Come by and cast the full spectrum of fly rod types available on the market today and see which one is the best fit for your fishing style and needs. Representatives from major players in the industry, as well as local expert guides will be on hand to answer questions & offer up tips and pointers; industry experts to include those from Blue Halo, Rising Fish, Moonlit Fly Fishing, Flycraft USA, Sundance Mountain Resort, & Fish Head’s Fly Shop. The Heber Valley Fly Fishing Festival is also pleased to announce that two Utah companies who are new to our vendor line-up were recent “Best of Show” winners at the 2016 International Fly Tackle Dealer convention (IFTD); congratulations to Tacky Fly Fishing, winners of the Fly Box/Storage System award & to Freestone Designs who took the “Best of Show” for the Fly Tying Materials/Equipment category. When we say we have the best & brightest fly fishing companies in the country attending our show, we definitely mean it! Many of the hottest fly rods makers will be on site as well with their demo fly rods for you to try out & Fall River Fly Rod Co.'s in-house bamboo and graphite fly rod designer/builder Jason Zicha will also be on-hand with his entire line of demo bamboo fly rods for those of you who may dream of having that special fly rod built to your specifications. Round out your day with a little early holiday shopping for the outdoors sportsman in your life as there will be a terrific selection of outdoors artisans as well. Stop by and meet the Utah artisan behind many of the most popular designs by Montana Fly Company, Travis Sylvester of Travz Art; his watercolor pencils work will simply stun you! Travis has also been kind enough to donate a gift certificate for a commission piece for our fundraising efforts for Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing; what a great opportunity to score an original piece of art crafted after your own personal “hero shot” photo & to help Utah vets in the process! The Provo River Kids Fly Fishing Derby, now sponsored by Maxxon Outfitters, will be back again this year and is open to kids ages 15 and under. The derby is a catch and release only event that may be fished anywhere on the Middle Provo River & participants must have a parent or legal guardian present at all times; prizes will be awarded the same day for top finishers in each age group and will include several brand-new Maxxon Outfitters rod & reel combo rigs. Registration for the Provo River Kids Fly Fishing Derby will be held at the festival information booth beginning at 10am or you may pre-register your child on by contacting Julie at We will have volunteers on hand to help get your kidlets up to speed should they be new to fly fishing & a LIMITED number of loaner fly rods for those who may not have their own gear. The kids’ derby is open to the first 50 children who register for the event so it may be a good idea to opt for the pre-registration if at all possible. Of course there will also be some friendly competition for the big kids too with Fly Casting Golf and our popular ISE caliber Casting Competition, sponsored by American Tackle (the largest fishing rod component manufacturer in the world!) for both distance and accuracy; top finishers in the amateur and pro divisions will be awarded a new, yet-to-be-released American Tackle "Bushido"* fly rod (retail value $450) the same day of the competitions. We will have a fabulous selection of auction items available this year as well; everything from a single-day, guided float on the Green River to fly rods to art and more all in an effort to fundraise for Project Healing Waters of SLC. Project Healing Waters works with disabled vets to help them re-engage with "normal" life upon returning home from service and ALL PROCEEDS from the festival will be for the benefit of the group this year. Finally, we hope you will join us for the free live music from Utah’s own Melody Pulsipher & for the free community BBQ that is being sponsored by Canyon Coolers; the free music and food will run Saturday evening only from 5pm to 8 pm. You may get a little sneak peek at Melody's beautiful Indie sound here ; we are delighted to have her with us this year! *Note: American Tackle does not build or provide completed fly rods to any company as a part of their business. These fly rods are a one of a kind collaboration between long standing industry partners: American Tackle and Fall River Fly Rods! All the fly rods have 100% American Tackle made parts and components and 100% Fall River Fly Rods design and labor.
