Recently reported in the Salt Lake Tribune and the Deseret News, US Census data shows Utah growing at astounding rates. At top the growth curve for Utah is Wasatch County, sitting at the fastest growing county in the state and the 7th fastest in the country. The County experienced just under 5 percent growth in 2015. Today the population sits just over 29,000. Since the 2010 census Wasatch County has seen the population grow by 25 percent.
Much of the county growth has happened directly in Heber City, making it the 3rd fastest growing city for its size in the United States. Heber added another 5 percent to the city limits in 2015.
"People are just looking for a more rural atmosphere," said Heber City Manager Mark Anderson. Heber offers that, he said, plus short commutes to Utah County, Salt Lake City and Park City where many residents work.
"There's a perceived higher quality of life here," he said.
That quality of life can be attributed to many factors such as better than average air quality, easy access to outdoor recreation at three state parks and national forest areas, a robust tourism industry, a high caliber school system, a quality health system and a small town feel all make the Heber Valley in Wasatch County a desirable place to live.
Strong growth in commercial construction has helped to support the population growth. Wasatch County has several hundred businesses ranging from "mom and pop" stores, to professional services to national chains and brands. There is becoming less and less need to leave the valley.
