Wasatch County to Kick Off General Plan Update Process

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (Feb. 27, 2025) - Wasatch County is beginning the process of updating the General Plan this spring and is seeking input from residents through online surveys and in-person events to help shape the policies and decisions that will impact the community for years to come.

The General Plan is a comprehensive, coordinated plan adopted by the County to identify present and future needs and guide land use and development within unincorporated Wasatch County. This plan offers a proactive approach to how the County will manage the impacts of development on various aspects such as transportation, housing, wildlife habitat, and more.

According to the Kem C. Gardner Policy Institute, Wasatch County’s population was estimated at 38,802 in July of 2024, up from 23,689 in July 2010, and is projected to reach 81,021 by 2060.

While the General Plan is updated and amended as needed, the most recent comprehensive update was completed in 2001. Given the significant growth Wasatch County has experienced and continues to experience, updating the General Plan is essential to ensure that the County can effectively meet the needs of its residents and businesses, both now and in the future. This update process will help shape the direction of growth and development, promoting a sustainable and thriving community for generations to come.

"The General Plan is a critical tool for guiding our county’s growth and should be a reflection of a shared community vision," said Wasatch County Planner Austin Corry. "Participation from residents and stakeholders is key to ensuring our community leaders understand the needs and desires of everyone who lives, works, and visits here."

Public Input Opportunities:
In-Person: Learn more about the General Plan update process and provide input on Tuesday, March 11, at 6 p.m. at the Wasatch County Recreation Center, 345 W 600 S, Ste. 500, Heber City.

Online survey: Share your thoughts and provide feedback through an online survey. The survey will be available starting Tuesday, March 11, at wasatchcounty.gov/general-plan.

The General Plan update process is anticipated to take approximately 18 months and will include public feedback periods, focus groups, and a series of public hearings prior to adoption.

For more information about the General Plan update process, please visit wasatchcounty.gov/general-plan or contact the Wasatch County Planning Department at 435-657-3205 or [email protected]
