As many of you may have heard, the Heber Valley Chamber of Commerce and Economic Development office welcomed Governor Herbert’s state-wide 25k jobs tour to the UVU Wasatch Campus. We had large crowds of business leaders who met with dozens of organizations from around the state. The meeting concluded with Lt. Governor Spencer Cox addressing the audience. He commended Wasatch County on the strength of our economy and committed to provide state resources wherever needed. While there was a lot of excitement and energy, we still have a lot to do to strengthen our economy.

If you think the Soldier Hollow Classic is simply for shepherds then you would be mistaken. The classic is more than this, actually a whole lot more. Hands down the main draw of the classic is to watch the handler and border collie become one as they masterfully guide the sheep through, over and around obstacles. It’s an amazing sight to behold to watch how all this is done with just the sound of whistles.

The month of August is an exciting time for members of the Heber Valley Chamber of Commerce. Just two years ago, we created a committee to help assess the value of sponsoring an annual golf tournament. Up until that point, very few people attended our golf outings, and our purpose for playing was never clear. The committee helped set a vision for making the golf tournament the most fun gathering in town.

As you may have noticed, things in the Heber Valley are busier than ever. Two weeks ago, Rocky Mountain Care broke ground to build a new, 51,000 square-foot facility on 1200 S. Last month, a new medical center broke ground—also on 1200 South. Just days ago, the Heber Valley Chamber staff toured the expansion of the Heber Valley hospital—an endeavor that will benefit the community for years to come.

As you have probably seen, the Heber Valley Chamber of Commerce invested into multi-colored street banners with the following messages: Shop Local, Play Local, and Dine Local. While these banners have decorated our main streets for nearly a year, the programming behind each message continues to develop. Beginning early this summer, Wasatch County residents will be able to pick up a “Play Local” card from the Heber Valley Visitors Center.

Wasatch Mountain State Park has teamed up with DWR to place 60 Tagged Fish disbursed between May 24th and August 19th in their pond! Come test out your fishing skills this summer at the Wasatch Mountain State Park Children's Fishing Pond. (Adults are required to have fishing licenses, and children are required to be accompanied by a licensed adult).

Now that Spring has arrived, business expansion is in full swing. During the past couple of weeks, Chamber members Probst Electric and Rooftop Anchor have expanded into new facilities, while others like Mrs. Call’s Candy Co. and the Heber Valley hospital are in the process of expanding their existing facilities. Many other businesses continue expanding which is a positive reflection of the health of our economy.

This March 27 - April 1 is your chance to get out and tantalize your tastebuds with great lunch and dinner specials. Last month, the Heber Valley welcomed Roger Brooks—a renowned branding expert who has consulted with thousands of towns and cities throughout the world. Roger’s purpose in visiting our valley was to secret shop our community. During his week-long stay, Roger identified many things our community is doing well. On the other hand, he also discovered many areas where we can improve.

Winter is Magical In Heber Valley

An unforgettable winter experience will return to Midway, Utah this season, bringing millions of tourism dollars with it. Utah-based Ice Castles has already started construction on their Midway winter wonderland and opened December 27. The Utah-based company creates magical winter experiences unlike any other. Artisans spend 4,000 hours combined dripping and shaping icicles while embedding them with color-changing LED lights to create life-size fairy tale playgrounds.

The new year is officially here, and 2017 looks brighter than ever. We concluded the annual Chamber Christmas lunch with great entertainment and by honoring Brent and Mary Kelly as the citizens of the year—an award given by the Heber Valley Rotary Club. Looking to this year, we anticipate continued success in our membership, in our monthly lunches, and within the programs we support to benefit our local businesses.

The past 12 months have been as busy and productive as ever. This year, the Heber Valley Chamber of Commerce added 40 new members, participated in more than 20 ribbon cuttings, and raised more funds to promote our businesses than any previous year. Additionally, the economic state of our community is stable, and all indicators point to continued business growth in Wasatch County.

As Thanksgiving approaches, we can look back on the year with much gratitude for the many great things happening in Heber Valley. To date, we have 175 chamber members who are active in promoting their businesses. To help remind our residents to support our Wasatch County businesses, we are gearing up for another exciting “Keep it Local” campaign which will coincide with the national Shop Local Saturday and will begin later in November.

Cowboy Round-up in Heber Valley this Week

It's time again for Heber Valley's annual Western Music and Cowboy Poetry Gathering. This event takes place the last weekend in October each year featuring a talented lineup of western musicians and cowboy poets from around the country. This year they are bringing back some of the cowboy favorites including: Bar J Wranglers, Michael Martin Murphey, Suzy Bogguss, and New West. We are also looking forward to The Highwaymen Live - a tribute to Waylon, Willie, and Cash - new this year.

Exciting Things are Happening in Heber Valley

A lot of exciting things are happening in the Heber Valley. Just a few weeks ago, the Heber Valley Chamber completed its annual golf tournament and raised just over $8,000 – doubling last year’s proceeds. These funds will be used to further the Chamber and its efforts to strengthen our community. Our valley also just concluded two major events: Swiss Days and the Sheepdog Championships at Soldier Hollow. Both events are unique to the area and provide great exposure to our valley.

Labor Day weekend is surely the busiest time of year in Heber Valley’s picturesque town of Midway. This is thanks in part to the popularity of the Soldier Hollow Classic Sheepdog Championship, a homegrown festival that has gained world renown. Now in its 14th year, the Soldier Hollow Classic is recognized as being one of the sport’s toughest competitions.

County fairs, demolition derbies, and memorable rodeos are the highlights of family fun in Heber Valley. These, and other local events, generate a lot of excitement for residents and visitors alike. Tourism spending in Wasatch County continues to increase each year as more people want to enjoy the many icons our valley offers. With the transient room tax that is collected, our office is able to invest back into the community to support local businesses, recreation facilities, and economic development.

Two weeks ago, the Heber Valley Chamber played host to the International Network of Golf’s annual conference. This gathering of influential media members was a historic meeting as this conference had never been held in the West. Because of the efforts of Chamber staff, we were able to lure the conference to our beautiful valley, and the results were amazing. More than 100 media members fell in love with the Zermatt Resort and its surrounding golf courses and generated countless news and radio stories featuring the Heber Valley.
